[SOLVED]texlive: tlmgr, tllocalmgr: How to make it work

Hi,

I tried to install some package:

$ tllocalmgr install hyphen-churchslavonic
Initializing ...
Cannot open /var/lib/texmf/arch/installedpkgs/texlive-europecv_20140627-1.pkgs

The error message is totally irrelevant: texlive-europecv is uninstalled and can't be a dependency anyway. I did some research. In a word, the texlive package managers are usually broken. Is there a reasonable way to make tlmgr/tllocalmgr work? I need that hyphen-churchslavonic package.

Here is the installation manual. Looks simple enough, but does not quite work.

Re: [SOLVED]texlive: tlmgr, tllocalmgr: How to make it work

I tried and installed texlive manually from upstream, according to ArchWiki (texlive from the repositories uninstalled) and the official Guide. Installation looks successful (tlmgr works), but the apps (TeXstudio, for starters) can't see the tools, like pdflatex, xetex, lualatex, etc. The tools are on the PATH and visible, but TeXstudio attempts full paths which are no longer valid. Is there a convenient way to reconfigure everything?

UPD:

My installation bin path is like this: /home/user/.local/share/texlive/2016/bin/x86_64-linux

An unfortunate place, maybe?

Probably. But it does not make any vital difference, as it turned out.
First, you have to remove your government issue texlive-bin:

$ sudo pacman -R texlive-bin

And trim whatever remains:

$ fmtutil-sys --all

Finally, add your texlive path to ~/.profile:

export PATH=/home/user/.local/share/texlive/2016/bin/x86_64-linux:$PATH

Do NOT put export PATH statements in .bashrc! Your apps, like TeXstudio, may not see the texlive binaries.
Relogin.

The better part of the manual texlive wisdom is here.

UPD:

texlive-dummy from AUR is highly advisable to prevent installation of texlive from repositories as a dependency in the future.
