DNS delay

Hello!
I have a problem which I would like some help debugging. I run two boxes acting as DNS cache (using djbdns), Server 1 also acts as my internet gateway

When I resolv a hostname with server 1

Server 1:

$ time ping -c1 sourceforge.net
PING sourceforge.net (66.35.250.203) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from sourceforge.net (66.35.250.203): icmp_seq=1 ttl=51     time=187 ms

real    0m6.750s

and server 2

Server 2:

$ time ping -c1 sourceforge.net
PING sourceforge.net (66.35.250.203) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from sourceforge.net (66.35.250.203): icmp_seq=1 ttl=51 time=190 ms

real    0m0.539s

The delay whick server 1 causes is annoying big time, what could the cause for this be?

Re: DNS delay

maybe because you are not using -n with your ping requests, so for each packet, it is doing a dns lookup.
You are likely not pointing the server's dns query to itself either. On the server1, what is in your /etc/resolv.conf?
