Segfault after "** Message: Connection validates and can be saved"

I'm trying to add a WPA2/TLS wireless network using NetworkManager. When I use nm-applet, I put in my certificates, private key, and passcode but when I hit connect it prints two messages to console:
(nm-applet:4488): libnm-CRITICAL **: ((libnm-core/nm-setting-8021x.c:710)): assertion '<dropped>' failed

** (nm-applet:4488): WARNING **: Couldn't read CA certificate 'p\xde\xd6': (unknown)
followed by segfault. However I'm not using a CA certificate and checked the no CA certificate needed box. However, sometimes there is a different error '*** Error in `nm-applet': double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x0000000000bba050 ***' followed by an exhaustive backtrace and memory map.

When I use nm-connection-editor, I do the same but it only gets up to the key before segfaulting right after "** Message: Connection validates and can be saved".

What is going on here? This https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/558380 seems to be related but I checked to make sure resolv.conf is *not* immutable

Connect manually to debug.

You mean using wpa_cli? I've been trying based on the guide and documentation but it's quite complicated and unfortunately I haven't been able to figure out how to do that with the certificate and key
