Naming of ethernet devices is not reliable

Yesterday my ethernet card was enp4s5. Today it is enp3s5. I have not changed any hardware. Why does it happen?

Re: Naming of ethernet devices is not reliable

I have not changed any hardware.

Sure?

Aug 11 09:13:27 tenebrae kernel: 8139too 0000:04:05.0 enp4s5: renamed from eth1
Aug 12 09:09:22 tenebrae kernel: 8139too 0000:03:05.0 enp3s5: renamed from eth1

Looks like there used to be an USB controller on that bus before?

Re: Naming of ethernet devices is not reliable

I also see this

Aug 11 09:13:18 tenebrae kernel: pci 0000:03:00.0: [1b21:1042] type 00 class 0x0c0330
Aug 11 09:13:18 tenebrae kernel: pci 0000:03:00.0: reg 0x10: [mem 0xfe900000-0xfe907fff 64bit]
Aug 11 09:13:18 tenebrae kernel: pci 0000:03:00.0: PME# supported from D3hot D3cold

I don't understand where it's coming from. Cannot reproduce either. I guess I need to investigate next time it happens.

Re: Naming of ethernet devices is not reliable

Is that a USB device, or a PCIe device?  The naming convention looks like USB
