Today after update bunch of packages and linux kernel following error occured: GPU recovery failed
This error only occurs if I run plasma5 after enter credentials to SDDM.
I do not have such issue with Awesome WM and Weston.
Did anyone have a similar issue?

Welcome to the arch linux forums mothbe. Was the previous kernel 4.12 based? Can you try booting with the Kernel parameter intel_iommu=off please.

As an explanation of why 'intel_iommu=off' is neededwith linux-zen 4.13 https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/pack … 4486205895 added CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON=y to the kernel config
So intel_iommu=off is needed to override this and restore 4.12 behaviour on systems where Intel IOMMU enablement is causing issues. Related bug https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/55629

Just had this exact same problem, total gpu hang with Intel HD Graphics 5500.
Why would they enable something that's going to cause a total freeze on multiple machines? After some googling it looks like my GPU model isn't the only one to have this problem

Same issue appears on Intel Corporation HD Graphics 6000 (rev 09) since update to regular mainline Kernel 4.13.3-1.
DE: Openbox / LXQt
No display manager.
Autostart X via ~/.bash_profile
Driver: modeset
Hole total system freeze, empty Xorg.log
downgraded linux (4.13.3-1 -> 4.12.8-2) -> works again.

Added intel_iommu=off to kernel command line, updated to 4.13.-1 -> works.
