Re: [Solved] Process 22653 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 dumped core.

Was your network enabled? If yes, could you try disabling your network, suspending and see if this occurs again?
Also, is this wayland? Nvidia card? Version of gnome-shell?

Re: [Solved] Process 22653 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 dumped core.

Dell E7450
Network was enabled.
Gnome 3.26.2
Intel graphic card with xf86-video-intel driver.
No nvidia, nor ati graphics card
I am using X, no wayland.

After the last upgrade I had successfully suspend and awaken my laptop few times before the problem occurred now.
Also after I tried it few times and it seems to work fine. Looks like it was a single situation.

Nevertheless, as a good administrator of my laptop wink, I want to find out what was the problem to prevent it from happening again.

Re: [Solved] Process 22653 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 dumped core.

From your log:

Nov 07 11:26:59 petrucci systemd-rfkill[2685]: Failed to open device: No such device
Nov 07 11:27:04 petrucci kernel: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_scan :

rfkill is a "tool for enabling and disabling wireless devices". I never encountered that kind of problem, but my best guess was that it was working somewhat "asynchronously" with systemctl suspend.
This means, probably it was trying to poweroff a wireless interface which was already down (and couldn't manage to put its heart at rest) or, the other way around, your wifi module/drivers weren't responsive to rfkill calls to "wake up" the interface.

This is just my guess according to the threads i've seen in the forums, and i'm not sure if this is actually right, so search it up, you'll find lots of good info about suspend+wireless issues (more or less related to this). wink

P.S. note that i asked you about nvidia, wayland and gnome-shell because i'm not sure if it had something to do here. Recently some users have had problems logging in with gnome + nvidia + xorg, i don't know if there were some other breakages.

Re: [Solved] Process 22653 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 dumped core.

That's really interesting. I was more thinking that it could be gnome / graphics connected.
I forgot to mention a bit more precise, that the image of the login screen and the desktop were deformed, but for ~20-30 seconds responsive.
I managed to switch few times the workspaces, have time to think what the hell is going wrong when things started deforming, and then it all hanged.

Re: [Solved] Process 22653 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 dumped core.

The only way to understand what happened is to

cat /var/log/pacman.log

and see what was updated.

EDIT: check this.

I know about that one, I had the same. Downgrade helped, and it was fixed the next day, so I don't think it is connected.

Re: [Solved] Process 22653 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 dumped core.

And what's your understanding after reading it?
(Tip: today's upgrade, the one that fixed the problem according to your second post, is missing from the log...)

Re: [Solved] Process 22653 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 dumped core.

Sorry, but the problem in that post was about the gdm causing hang on boot. It is completely unrelated to my issue here. And all of that happened at the end of the October, I posted logs from the November.

What's your understanding after reading the log, not the gdm thread wink and, again, you opened a thread today and then said that an upgrade solved the issue, but the last upgrade in the log was issued the 5th of november.
Were you referring to the upgrade of 2 days ago or is the log missing something?

I was missing the second part of your last post, sorry.

EDIT: well, according to your logs (both november and october) and the journalctl, at this point this will become mostly speculating about gdm 3.26.2 breaking things. dlopen + glibc may have something to do here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=200977
According to that thread it's normal. If it happens again, we'll see what can be done.

Re: [Solved] Process 22653 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 dumped core.

Smells more related to
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=230875
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=231158
and
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=230972

Gnome seems to have/cause trouble with the screen geometry after locks/wakeups and does confusing things. The problem here is probably due to an X11 error (using invalid window geometries or so) and gdk responding to any X11 error by suicide...

Hey guys, thanks for your suggestions.
I will observe the issue and and write if the problem repeat or when I will know something more.
