After an update sound stopped working in any application of my laptop. I've browsed for fixes in Archlinux forums, but to no avail.
Here some info for debugging:
% lspci | grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
speaker-test -D default:PCH -c 2
speaker-test 1.1.5
Playback device is default:PCH
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 2048 to 16384
Period size range from 1024 to 1024
Using max buffer size 16384
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 1024
was set buffer_size = 16384

% bash alsa-info.sh --upload
url with the info:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=47a91 … b3a0bf7a57
I could post as well ouputs from aplay, /dev/snd, fuser, lsmod if requested, although I believe the alsa-info url has it all.
AFAIK everything seems to be fine and I don't see any error. I have unmuted the Master in alsamixer and tried a variety of things on alsamixer, but it won't work.

I believe the update that made the audio mute was this:
[2017-11-18 01:42] [ALPM] installed libidn2 (2.0.4-2)
Then I reinstalled pulseaudio:
[2017-11-18 01:50] [ALPM] reinstalled pulseaudio (11.1-1)
And today I did another update before running the commands posted above, just in case:
[2017-11-25 14:06] [ALPM] installed libfreehand (0.1.2-1)
[2017-11-25 14:06] [ALPM] installed libstaroffice (0.0.5-1)
[2017-11-25 14:31] [ALPM] installed jemalloc (1:5.0.1-3)
[2017-11-25 14:31] [ALPM] installed unibilium (1.2.1-1)
[2017-11-25 14:31] [ALPM] installed libtermkey (0.20-1)
[2017-11-25 14:31] [ALPM] installed libuv (1.16.1-1)
[2017-11-25 14:31] [ALPM] installed msgpack-c (2.1.5-1)
[2017-11-25 14:31] [ALPM] installed libvterm (0.1.git1.c4317a6-2)
[2017-11-25 14:31] [ALPM] installed luajit (2.0.5-1)
I also installed neovim, but I don't think that matters:
[2017-11-25 14:31] [ALPM] installed neovim (0.2.2-1)
[2017-11-25 14:33] [ALPM] installed xsel (1.2.0.20160929-1)
[2017-11-25 14:34] [ALPM] reinstalled neovim (0.2.2-1)

Why do you think libidn2 affects your audio?

Oh, I don't think it does. In fact, I looked into it and it doesn't have anything to do with audio at all. But everything worked up to that update. Prior to this update I installed these packages:
[2017-11-04 14:47] [ALPM] installed python-parso (0.1.0-1)
[2017-11-04 14:47] [ALPM] installed python-jedi (0.11.0-1)
[2017-11-16 01:10] [ALPM] installed dropbox (39.4.49-1)
But I believe that audio was working after these installs. And they don't have anything to do with audio in any case.
I mean, if an update didn't make audio stop working, what did it? I hadn't touched any audio configuration file, and I reinstalled pulseaudio when I noticed this problem. What other packages should I reinstall to restore the audio system to a fresh install state?

If you use pulseaudio posting
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sinks
pacmd list-sink-inputs #While playing
might also help in tracking this down.
Also please use [ code ] tags for pasting command output.

I noticed that sink <0> was muted, in the ouput of
pacmd list-sinks
So I went again to pulseAudio troubleshooting page, and with the help of Muted Audio Device and Output stuck muted while... I got audio back on.
Even though I still don't know why I got my audio device muted, I know how to fix it so I'll mark this thread as solved.
Many thanks for the support.
