[solved] Left/Right-Ctrl no longer registering in Gnome shortcuts

Coming from Ubuntu I mapped gnome-terminal to ctrl-alt-T after installing Arch. While trying to fix another issue (that I will also be posting about) I enabled the Multilib repository by editing /etc/pacman.conf, updated with 

 pacman -Syu

and installed lib32-glibc via pacman. Following a reboot, my ctrl keys no longer work.

Pressing ctrl+alt+T no longer activates my shortcut and when trying to rebind my shortcut it doesn't register any shortcuts involving ctrl. Ctrl still works in the terminal (ex: ctrl+c, ctrl+d, etc.), it just doesn't register when setting shortcuts in gnomes settings window.

This thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=150587 mentions I may need to roll back some upgrades, but it seems old and none of them match my upgraded packages.
This post: https://superuser.com/questions/88835/m … o-i-fix-it says to try 

 setxkbmap

which had no effect.

I suspect one of my upgraded packages caused the issue. Can anyone identify (or tell me how to identify) the culprit? I'd prefer a fix of course but I will roll back and blacklist the package upgrade if I have to.

You're probably running gnome on wayland ("loginctl session-status") - try gnome on xorg whether the issue exists there as well.
