Install package without dependencies and keep it that way with updates

How can I install a package without getting its dependencies and prevent pacman from getting the dependencies when an update to that packages comes to the repo? I did the install step like this:

pacman -Sdd package

It worked.  The problem is when the package is updated in the repo, and I run `pacman -Syyu` to update my system, pacman wants to get the dependencies now.

Why do you want to do this? Dependencies should be required. If they are not maybe you should open a ticket to have them changed to optdepends.

Assuming there is a legitimate reason to do this, you may want to check out the following:

May I ask when package(s) are you talking about or is it just a general question?  I can think of a few AUR packages this applies to...

CPU-optimized Linux-ck packages @ Repo-ck  • AUR packagesZsh and other configs

Re: Install package without dependencies and keep it that way with updates

Hi! Do this work for a non AUR package? I have moved from sistemd to s6 init and there are some dependencies that are not required...
I didn't understood how the guide works (sorry I'm a newbie that pretend to do too much big_smile)

That's the point of what trilby linked yes. You'll still have to go to the obarun support channel if you need more information on this: https://forum.obarun.org/
