Hey all.
We will be holding a bug day on the weekend of January 5th and 6th, to start off the year with a cleaned up bugtracker.
The community is encouraged to canvass the bugtracker and find old bugs, figure out which ones are still valid, track down fixes and suchlike.
Feel free to join #archlinux-bugs at that time in order to reach a bug wrangler and get more input on a bug. Or just post to the bug tracker.

I'm in, I should have a few hours spare each day (it should be more productive than playing Star Citizen anyway)

Hi everyone!
Thanks to Arch Linux Team for their Great Work every day!
I want to bring your attention to possibility/necessity to change hard dependencies of some packages.
libblockdev is a hard dependency of udisks2.
lvm2 is a hard dependency of libblockdev.
lvm2 spawns processes that cannot be disabled. They can only be masked.
$ systemctl -t service
...
lvm2-lvmetad.service loaded active running LVM2 metadata daemon
lvm2-monitor.service loaded active exited Monitoring of LVM2 mirrors, snapshots etc. using dmeventd or progress polling
...
$ htop
...
... /usr/bin/lvmetad -f
...
Does everyone need this package and these processes? In my view, lvm2 should be an optional dependency.
I am happy to use tilix-bin in Awesome WM. Why not this one?
Oops! Very hard dependencies... gtkd + liblphobos.
Tilix works great without them. Optional deps? Yea!
And another bad example: firewalld .
Looks like I can't use firewall-cmd without installing firewall-config (GUI) and xorg-server.
Very good example: nmap .
If I ever need to run zenmap (GUI), I will install additional (optional) dependencies.
Happy New Year and less hard dependencies!

zsx,
This thread is more of an announcement rather than a place to actually report bugs. Please use the bug tracker, discuss on IRC, or if you believe it is a support issue, open a thread in the proper section of the BBS.
I have closed this thread for now to avoid similar issues. It can be reopened easily if needed.
All the best,
-HG
