xrandr broker after update

Good afternoon,
I updated my system today after a couple of month. Now xrandr seems to be broken. Any command lead to the following:

xrandr -q                                                                                                                    sad
xrandr: output eDP1 cannot use rotation "normal" reflection "none"

==========================
xrandr program version       1.5.0
Server reports RandR version 1.5

4.20.0-arch1-1-ARCH  + I3

Any suggestion how to fix this?
Thanks!!

Re: xrandr broker after update

Try

xrandr --output eDP1 --reflect normal --rotate normal

I will downgrade the kernel and will let you know. Thanks

edit:
I downgraded the kernel to

4.19.4-arch1-1-ARCH

and now xrandr works normally.
I guess I will stay with this kernel than for a while. Thank you very much for your help seth!

Re: xrandr broker after update

You can install the 4.19 kernel in parallel to the 4.20 kernel (4.19 is presently the linux-lts kernel) for testing.
I'd try removing xf86-video-intel (you'll resort to the modesetting driver), the intel ddx driver is probably not interfacing correctly w/ the i915 module of 4.20.
You might want/have to raise an upstream bug w/ xf86-video-intel in case.

Re: xrandr broker after update

Hey,
indeed I should fix this properly: E.g Virtualbox needs the 4.20 kernel.

Now I have installed the following kernels

core/linux-lts 4.19.15-1

and

core/linux 4.20.1.arch1-1

and can choose in grub with which I will load linux.

So I removed the package "xf86-video-intel" but than the system couldnt start into the graphical environment (i3) (the system stops after choosing an entry in the grub menu).
Is there another package which I have to install instead to load the into my i3 environment ?

But when I get you correct, I would try out some kind of standard driver for my graphic chip, load into i3 with this one, check out if xrandr is working normally and if so, report a bug?

Re: xrandr broker after update

There's likely some 20-intel.conf in /etc/X11/xorg.con.f.d of /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d provoking the (now absent) intel driver to be used.
If it's because of the ddx driver you might want to file a bug, but the intel driver is somewhat deprecated anyway.

Re: xrandr broker after update

Indeed I have this file

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "TearFree" "true"

EndSection

Has this something to do why it is not falling back to the "standard" driver?
Not sure which driver I should use instead and how this works.
Do I have to uninstall xf86...and than:

 /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
----------------------------------------
MODULES=(... i915 ...)

Re: xrandr broker after update

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf  is the problematic one, it explicitly selects the intel driver, but you deliberately removed it w/ the xf86-video-intel package => remove that file.

The kernel module (i915) is irrelevant in this context.
