[SOLVED] LXPanel freezes my system

After a fresh installation I ecounter some problems with configuration, particuraly with lxpaenl.
I use Openbox and recall the openbox autostart file to run lxpanel.

When I loggin to my account, from tty and startx, my system is frozen and I have to reboot to change the autostart file not to start lxpanel.

If I run it from the terminal, the same happens

my .xinitrc file

exec openbox-session

my openbox/autostart file

#Disable beep sound on boo
xset b off &
xset b 0 0 0 &

## Numpad on boot
numlockx &

## Background
(sleep 1s && nitrogen --restore) &

##  Volume Icon
(sleep 1s && volumeicon) &

## Panel
## LXPanel
(sleep 1s && lxpanel) &
## Tint2
# (sleep 1s && tint2) &

## Network Manager Applet

## Power Manager

Re: [SOLVED] LXPanel freezes my system

Try

#Disable beep sound on boo
xset b off
xset b 0 0 0

## xrandr
xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1920x1080 00rate 60.00 --same-as LVDS1 --off

## Disable touchpad
#/usr/bin/synclient TouchpadOff=1

## Numpad on boot
numlockx

## Background
nitrogen --restore &

## LXPanel
lxpanel &

sleep 2

##  Volume Icon
volumeicon &

## Network Manager Applet
nm-applet &

## Power Manager
xfce4-power-manager &

## Redshift
redshift-gtk &

Don't just fork everything, only long running processes. For some processes, it's pretty important to not collide.
Set the screen geometry before starting desktop & panel.
Also a bunch of forked sleeps won't get you anywhere.

Re: [SOLVED] LXPanel freezes my system

I changed the autostart file as you showed and I got the clutch.

I tried to get an error and I logged out and typed lxpanel in tty and I got the following

(lxpanel: 1149): Gtk WARNING **:17:56:58:216: cannot open display

I don't know if it related, I can't start gnome-terminal getting the following error

Error constructing proxy for org.gnome.Terminal:/org/gnome/Terminal/Factory0: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gnome.Terminal: Timeout was reached

and as I made a search it appears it is a locale problem. I've tried to change it but it doesn't fix.

Hope my new details help you.

Re: [SOLVED] LXPanel freezes my system

Your .xinitrc file is incomplete, it doesn't do quite a few necessary startup includes: It should be based on the existing template, see the second blue box

Re: [SOLVED] LXPanel freezes my system

You'll have to "export DISPLAY=:0"
In case the incomplete session is not the cause (I could see why lxpanel would time out w/o a session bus, but not why that would cause a general freeze) please post a complete journal from the boot and your xorg log.

Re: [SOLVED] LXPanel freezes my system

I edited the .xinitrc file with a few important files (the six lines above), which I didn't fill after installation.

As V1del proposed, I had to copy an existing template of xinit with the command

$ cp /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc ~/.xinitrc
#!/bin/sh
if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ] ; then
 for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/?*.sh ; do
  [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
 done
 unset f
fi

# lxpanel &

exec openbox-session

And after all, the gnome-terminal starts now.

#!/bin/sh
if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ] ; then
 for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/?*.sh ; do
  [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
 done
 unset f
fi

# lxpanel &

exec openbox-session

Also gnome-terminal starts now.

seth what do mean to "export DISPLAY=:0"?
Can you please tell me, what do those commands do, and are so important, in xinitrc?

And an honest thank you again. Unfortunately I don't have much time to learn Arch, that's why I'm still newbie, even I use it for six years.

Re: [SOLVED] LXPanel freezes my system

They source the stuff in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/, most critically 50-systemd-user.sh
"man export", the  DISPLAY environment tells X11 clients which server to talk to.

You marked this solved and suggest that gnome-terminal starts, but what about the freeze? lxpanel is at least still commented in your xinitrc…

Re: [SOLVED] LXPanel freezes my system

Sorry for my rush, I posted even I when I was testing.

The system doesn't freeze anymore, even in the loggin of tty with startx, even when I recall from the terminal.

It doesn't matter where the lxpanel is writen, in ~/.xinitrc or in the ~/.config/openbox/autostart as long as the first 6 lines are in .xinitrc.

Apparently the ~/.xinitrc has a dependency with locale and caused the gnome-terminal to function.
