Checking out the PKGBUILD for packages removed from ABS?

Say I want to submit a package removed from ABS to the AUR, because some old software packaged in the AUR still uses it. However, apparently I cannot just check it out using Git or SVN since they're remove from the repo. Adding -r'date' doesn't help either.

Is there an Arch Linux Archive-like project but for the PKGBUILDs instead of built packages?

The repo doesn't get removed.

Mod note: moving to AUR Issues.

Whoops, my mistake, you're talking about official packages, not AUR packages. Not had my coffee yet. Moving to Pacman Issues.

What's the package in question?  Can you work back in the log here to find it:
https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/log/

For example, qt4 was recently removed, but I went back in the log to just before the commit that dropped it, then went to the tree, and there it was:
