Hello Arch Linux Forum,
I've moved over to Arch Linux 64-bit and have been adding applications on.
I'm using Ethernet all the time as I can never get my Wi-Fi connection to work (I'm trying to use wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd on a WPA2-secured network), and it works fine.
Recently I want to get some packages from the Arch User Repository (namely Discord and Visual Studio Code) but when I run
makepkg -si PKGBUILDand
extra-x86_64-build PKGBUILDthey install the dependencies fine. The only problem is that the tar.gz file doesn't download and times out.
I can't find anything on the wiki that can fix this, so any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks,
Samaritan

Yeah, the output is:
[malachy@malachy-arch ~]$ cd discord
[malachy@malachy-arch discord]$ makepkg -si PKGBUILD

Aborting...I'd like to repeat what I said earlier: I have a fully working internet connection. It can browse and responds to external pings.

Works fine for me, for discord (AUR). Does it work now? Maybe their site was having trouble. If not, try this, which is surely to fail, indicating the problem isn't with makepkg:
wget "https://dl.discordapp.net/apps/linux/0.0.9/discord-0.0.9.tar.gz"Offline
Downloads fine here as well, post the output of
dig dl.discordapp.net
dig @8.8.8.8 dl.discordapp.net
nmap dl.discordapp.netOffline
Sidenote: You don't have to include "PKGBUILD" in the makepkg call.

You're resolving the right IPs but all ports are filtered, what is not true for this IP here.
=> Some firewall (iptables/netfilter - maybe in your router or a campus-wide firewall)?
Can you ping the IP?
