MAC address clonning / Spoofing not working

Hi,

I remember to try this for some fun like 5 years ago (of course I was using as well Arch at the time) and it didn't work at all, basically the same thing happens now (with another device)
I'v tried already https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MA … s_spoofing and different ways at it, it keeps not working.

If I do so via NetworkManger , it will keep failing on both "scanning" and "connection" mode, and I tried random and stable as you can see below:

[1564835801.7597] device (wlp0a30d0a11u5): set-hw-addr: new MAC address E6:BF:BB:A8:8D:97 not successfully set-cloned (stable)
[1564835797.0610] device (wlp0a30d0a11u5): set-hw-addr: new MAC address 62:DA:42:78:8F:B1 not successfully set (scanning)
[1564835880.7606] device (wlp0a30d0a11u5): set-hw-addr: new MAC address BA:6F:88:4F:B2:EC not successfully set-cloned (random)

I'v tried as well via command line (after turning off Networkmanager, wpa_supplicant and turning down the interface):

ip link set dev wlp0a30d0a11u5 address 16:c3:81:94:2e:a3

And yet the MAC address is quite stubborn remaining the same.
The same results are with macchanger and as well if I create a file in conf.d (NM).

It's not a "life or death" situation, but would be nice to have this feature on my laptop.

EDIT: as a note here, I just tried it on another laptop which is basically a clone of the first one and it works with no flaws at all.. I just edited the network configuration via GUI , set it to random and it works...
It's very weird...

Re: MAC address clonning / Spoofing not working

So I found out what this is about... Basically my current driver (and the older one) for my wifi card is very crappy , so most of the functionalities aren't working (except connecting to the internet...)
I tried with a dkms driver and downloaded a custom one from github and it turned out that I was able to change the mac but turning the interface into monitor mode would make the system freeze...
Long story short : buy a new card that's supported out of the box (which this was supposed to be ...)
