[SOLVED] Gnome-Terminal won't start, gnome local issues

Hello, I cannot seem to open gnome-terminal due to a local issue and have spent quite a bit of time navigating the forum to look for a solution but so far none have worked for me. I also have not found someone with my particular issue, but maybe missed a forum post somewhere. Anyways my issue is that the output of locale -a gives me "en_US.utf8" whereas the output of localectl gives me  "LANG=en_US.UTF-8". How can I change the locals in local -a to match that given by localectl?

locale -a

C
en_US.utf8
POSIX

localectl

   System Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8
       VC Keymap: n/a
      X11 Layout: us
       X11 Model: pc105

gnome-terminal error

I've already run locale-gen and set the locale with localectl if there is something in particular I've really missed from the wiki please let me know but reading through it again still hasn't answered my question.

Paste the actual error from the terminal, as well as the full output of `locale -a` and `localectl` (in code tags):

Re: [SOLVED] Gnome-Terminal won't start, gnome local issues

I do not have an environment file/folder in my home folder. As for the gnome overriding locale.conf I do not know where to find the fix for that?

Re: [SOLVED] Gnome-Terminal won't start, gnome local issues

Your locale -a and localectl output are fine - the difference in case is irrelevant.  Also, from the output of gnome terminal that you posted, the locale isn't the main issue.  It's odd that it's failing to use the locale, but it is falling back to the 'C' locale - so this is not the cause of gnome-terminal failing to open.  Rather the cause of that is the actual ERROR in the last line.

EDIT: though this error is also related to the locale, but not the system locale, but rather some odd setting in gnome:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=228399

Note that the thread linked above is the second result from a web search for the actual error message.

Re: [SOLVED] Gnome-Terminal won't start, gnome local issues

I would suggest first starting a different terminal emulator then check the value of LANG under it .
