[SOLVED] Use 2.4GHz wifi instead of 5GHz

I have to connect to a company wifi AP which uses 2 channels (2.457 ghz/ch 10 and 5.5 ghz/ch 100) on the same ESSID.

NetworkManager always uses the 5GHz channel, while I need to use the 2.4GHz one instead, but there's no option in the GUI for that. I've had to install WiCD which shows the 2 channels as 2 different networks and lets me choose one.

Is there a configuration file somewhere where I can specify my preference, or some other way to avoid having to use WiCD?

Re: [SOLVED] Use 2.4GHz wifi instead of 5GHz

I think IWD should be able to do what WiCD does for you. It  offers better integration with NetworkManager. There used to be a 'Rank' option (see this), but there have been quite a few changes in IWD recently so I'm not sure that's still supported. You might want to ask in the IWD thread here on the forum or via the upstream 'Feedback and Community' links available here.

Thanks, I'll try experimenting with IWD.

Edit:

band can be set with: nmcli connection modify "$PROFILE" wifi.band bg wifi.channel 10

or more simply by using nm-connection-editor
