sudo /etc/rc.d/sshd restart
:: Stopping Secure Shell Daemon [DONE]
:: Starting Secure Shell Daemon [DONE]
ssh localhost -p 1606
ssh: connect to host localhost port 1606: Connection refused
i comment out Port 22 in the config file, restart the service:
.: sudo /etc/rc.d/sshd restart ~ :: Stopping Secure Shell Daemon [DONE] :: Starting Secure Shell Daemon [DONE] .: ssh localhost ~ ssh: connect to host localhost port 1606: Connection refused
strange, i didn't think it'd use 1606 instead of 22 so i try 22, still with Port 1606 as the only port listed in ssh_config
.: ssh localhost -p 22 ~ [output of banner] Password:
Though ssh_config only lists port 1606, ssh only responds on 22, how'd this happen?
am expecting change with the wrong file?
do a netstat -nl, and see if it is listening.
if it is, then it is probably tcp_wrappers blocking your access to it.
If it isn't, then ssh isn't listening.
EDIT: *reading the above more closely*
oh, and you want sshd_config for the daemon. ssh_config is for the client.

 ha, that makes a lot of sense.
sorry for wasting time on a typo
