No WiFi after upgrade

Upon completing full upgrade, no access to wireless NIC.
It's not listed in "ip link" output, but shown with lspci.
The card is Intel Wireless-AC 3168NGW
The kernel now is 5.5.2, should I revert to older one ?

Re: No WiFi after upgrade

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/65359 should be fixed in 5.5.2.arch2-1 currently in testing.

Re: No WiFi after upgrade

the fix in 5.5.2 testing made matters worse for me on this wifi card. i got a loop at boot from iwlwifi and had to force power off. still can only use last kernel from 5.4 series.

Re: No WiFi after upgrade

@glenb77 can you report that on https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/65359 please include the kernel messages extracted from the journal for the boot with the loop.

Re: No WiFi after upgrade

reported issue and linked video of the looping. the patch apparently fixes most of the 3168 cards, but not the ones sold in the walmart/motile machines. this is documented in this thread which is the same as problem i am seeing with mine.

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8 … 3abfdaccde

from what i can tell there are 4 firmware files that are available that will work with the driver, i tried all 4 and they all fail, including latest which is 29. if i blacklist the module to let the computer boot and then insert/modprobe the driver, it will load and show in modules, but when i try to set the driver to 'up' condition i get input/output error.

Re: No WiFi after upgrade

@misty if you apply the patch from https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206479#c4 to 5.5.3.arch1-1 is the issue resolved?

I'm sorry. I think the issue I have is not the same, my adapter is an AC 8260. Weird thing is that with the 5.5.3.arch1-1 I still have the same issue. I will post in the correct thread from now, thank you!

Re: No WiFi after upgrade

It applies to the AC 8260 as well see https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=252778.  The patch I linked in post #9 is newer.

Re: No WiFi after upgrade

@misty: It looks like you are trying to modify the PKGBUILD of the kernel to apply the patches. But it looks like you added a command to apply the patch in prepare() before line 37, but if you look at the PKGBUILD, in lines 42-49, it's already applying any patch listed in the source=(...) array. Therefore it's trying to apply the patch twice, the first time it succeeds, the second time it fails because it's already applied.

So, remove your own line to apply the patch in prepare() and just list the patch in the source=(...) array (and sha256sums=(...) of course). That should fix your problem.

Thank you, that was exactly it.

I can confirm the patch works against 5.5.7

EDIT: fixed in 5.5.13
