am noticing it's unable to make contact with dbus

 Failed to connect to bus: Operation Not Permitted

however not exactly sure where within the log file things are going wrong.

Re: Problem Using Startx Xorg Server Within Vagrant running SOLVED

fixed open ACPI, however still failed.
need to know more about these
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … er_service
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd

my first guess however was the user permissions surrounding bus security policy, i'm assuming it's udev dbus or systemd or linked to echo $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS output

 unix:path=/run/user/1000/bus

scripting, probably will have to figure out a more succinct or neat way of doing this

Re: Problem Using Startx Xorg Server Within Vagrant running SOLVED

The most common cause for such errors is a misconfigured xinitrc .

please post ~/.xinirc

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: Problem Using Startx Xorg Server Within Vagrant running SOLVED

Thank you Lone_Wolf

You're right i'm normally better at figuring this out. Need to reread I guess it's just again that this has never happened and I spent forever combing through Xorg.0.log
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#Installation

xinitrc below

#!/bin/sh

userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
usermodmap=$HOME/.Xmodmap
sysresources=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xresources
sysmodmap=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xmodmap

# merge in defaults and keymaps

if [ -f $sysresources ]; then

    xrdb -merge $sysresources

fi

if [ -f $sysmodmap ]; then
    xmodmap $sysmodmap
fi

if [ -f "$userresources" ]; then

    xrdb -merge "$userresources"

fi

if [ -f "$usermodmap" ]; then
    xmodmap "$usermodmap"
fi

# start some nice programs

if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ] ; then
 for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/?*.sh ; do
  [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
 done
 unset f

Re: Problem Using Startx Xorg Server Within Vagrant running SOLVED

just noticed from reading xinitrc that I'm missing .Xresources

 pacman -S xorg-xrdb

works however running xrdb returns

 xrdb: Can't open display ' '
 xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources

does the same thing. probably due to the fact that there is nothing to display within a console.
that being said however,  i'm having trouble figuring out how exactly to create an .Xresources file
i suppose writing it manually might work but what is the standard or clean way of doing this?

Re: Problem Using Startx Xorg Server Within Vagrant running SOLVED

did get rid of the error.

 failed to connect to bus: Operation not Permitted

it's mostly the links below
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … w_it_works
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … _instances
alongside knowing the correct names to apply ie xorg@.service vs xorg.serivce

i think I should just post more when i'm completely finished

Re: Problem Using Startx Xorg Server Within Vagrant running SOLVED

There was no problem. I wasted five or so days going over this only to realize that the graphical Xsession environment I was looking for was in virtualbox's guest window all along.
Still working around the ins and outs of Virtualbox. However as for the dbus session bus error.

export XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=
export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=

figure these two NAM=VALUE pairs out by using

systemctl --user show-environment

then

systemctl --user import-environment

or

env

wound up setting up both Xorg and dwm as user services. plan to do the same with tmux. If anyone could give me a reason as to why this would be a good idea
that'd be a helpful answer someone gave me as to why
