Checked out empty branch with etckeeper

Hi,

I was attempting to set up etckeeper with sudo and ironically nuked my entire /etc in the process. I no longer have /etc/passwd, so when I try to su, I get "su: user root does not exist or the user entry does not contain all the required fields." I also can't sudo: "sudo: you do not exist in the passwd database". Is there a way to repair my server as an unprivileged user? The server is an 8 hour drive away, so I would ideally like to do it remotely.

Thank you

Re: Checked out empty branch with etckeeper

I would think that some of it would have to look something like this...

Granted, there would have to be someone there to type some things and maybe reboot but it would get you in as root with network access.
