Hi everyone!
I had sound working (adjusting volumes by using alsamixer), and every time I'd plug the USB webcam in, I'd lose the sound card (alsamixer would only show the webcam microphone), but I'd remove the webcam and reboot and all was back to normal. So I did some reading and ended up doing what's suggested here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 56#p660056
The above step didn't fix the issue (webcam is still the only thing that comes up in alsamixer), but now even with the webcam removed, alsamixer can't find the sound card. I've removed the change above, no sound card. Updated to latest kernel, no sound card. Booted into Ubuntu live, still no sound card.
The only interesting thing is see is:

A bit weird, but at some point my machine failed to boot with a bit of a cryptic message mentioning FireWire. I took the FireWire card out and the sound card came back.
