Wireless Mouse Not Working!

Hello Everyone,

I tried to connect my wireless mouse to my laptop (Dell), but it just doesn't move the mouse at all. I thought that my mouse has gone bust. But I connected it to my office laptop, which is Windows, and it does work just fine. The batteries are brand new, just put them on 10 mins ago. I Googled a bit a found that I need to install something called xf86-input-mouse. But I dont know how to. I tried using "pacman -S" command, but it didn't do anything. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Wireless Mouse Not Working!

You don't need xf86-input-mouse. What kind of mouse is it? How are you trying to connect? Which error messages do you see? etcetc: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855

Which instructions did you follow to install Arch Linux?

Re: Wireless Mouse Not Working!

It is a HP mouse (Bluetooth). I dont see any errors. I just connect the dongle to the USB slot and click the connect on the mouse. It should connect after about 10 seconds. But nothing happens. The mouse pointer just stays put.

Being very new to Arch, I installed it from a video on YouTube. Because a visual guide just makes a bit easier.

This is video is I referred to do the install.

I will check the logs and see if any errors pop up.

Re: Wireless Mouse Not Working!

For Bluetooth please read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bluetooth and try to pair your mouse with "bluetoothctl".
Sorry, I have no video for you - on arch it's recommended to read the wiki.

Edit: FYI: bluetooth pairing data are stored in the operating system - if you change your OS or hardware you need to re-pair - keep this in mind if you "test" with another laptop/OS.

Re: Wireless Mouse Not Working!

Random shitty youtube guides are not supported… (yes: they're all shit)

You want to monitor "dmesg -w" when plugging the dongle (should yield an event) and connecting the mouse (more events)
Also check the output of "sudo libinput list-devices" after plugging the mouse.

If you get the events and the mouse shows up in libinput, elaborate on the disfunctional environment (display server, desktop environment/windowmanager/compositor)

Edit: is it a generic bluetooth dongle or did you get it w/ the mouse?
