[solved] ARK on steam fail. re-opened

I am trying to get ARK to run on steam with Proton.

I am using Proton because the linux build fails everywhere, the Proton runtime works on *other* distors, not ours.

I read this:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … al_Evolved

And these posts:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=218562
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=202069

I've scoured the web to learn it runs fin on other distros (the proton build that is).

Here is the relevant log:

ERROR: ld.so: object '/home/jmgant/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64/gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64): ignored.
11217.664:01ec:01f0:trace:loaddll:build_module Loaded L"C:\\windows\\system32\\ntdll.dll" at 7BC00000: builtin

I re-opened this issue because this game was not cheap and I don't want to run another distro.

This is for all versions of Proton.

Re: [solved] ARK on steam fail. re-opened

for clarity :
Which ARK version/expansion  are you trying to play ?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3461 … l_Evolved/

post xorg log and full outputs of

$ lspci -knn
$ glxinfo -B # comes with mesa-demos
$ glxinfo32 -B # comes with lib32-mesa-demos

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

Re: [solved] ARK on steam fail. re-opened

it runs just fine in single player mode. it fails when joining a server, even private ones.

Re: [solved] ARK on steam fail. re-opened

I can promise you the game Runs fine under Steam Native Runtime -> Proton on Arch as I play it.
Did you install BattleEye at any point? If so you need to remove it.
Also refer to https://www.gloriouseggroll.tv/how-to-g … ency-hell/ to make sure you pulled in Wine's dependencies.

Add PROTON_LOG=1 to the games launch options and upload the log file it produces in your home folder.

Re: [solved] ARK on steam fail. re-opened

what version of proton are you using? single player works, I just can not join servers... crashes every time. doing a clean Steam and game install now.

Re: [solved] ARK on steam fail. re-opened

Proton 5.13-5
Post your proton log and make sure you have the wine deps installed...

From a fresh install of Arch.

Re: [solved] ARK on steam fail. re-opened

Ok. I am stupid. The game works fine with proton. The problem was that some servers, even unofficial servers, have an anti-cheat that requires the installation of software called battle-eye. Non anti-cheat servers connect just fine. No battle-eye on linux however. Thanks all.
