[Solved] Desktop fail to start

Something strange happened after system upgrade last night.

The xfce3 desktop failed to start after login. The system get frozen with no respons with the start of xfce4 desktop. I tried the gnome desktop, it failed too.

Before login with slim.

I can still login with Ctrl+F2 . It works well until I run startx to run the desktop.

Well, it's obvious: something is broken. You must fix it.

Note the warning regarding slim on: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SLiM

That said this kind of issue can happen if modesetting is initialized after xorg starts instead of before, in which case you will want to setup: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … de_setting

I don't think it's (only) early kms, but there's been a lot of issues regarding intel lately and it's either xf86-video-intel or the power saving features.

After some BIOS error, I tried "startx /usr/bib/xfce4-session" from console. It works.

Then I login with SLIM. Xfce4 works well now.

Thank you for your help smile
