After last mono update banshee has stopped working  :cry:

seems you didn't start the session bus...
it works fine for me, before updating it i tested it on banshee/muine/monodevelop and f-spot

you aren't using that...
try from` a console:

I do not use gnome (its installed!) banshee would not run without it ;-(

Emm its getting so complicated to run a simple app these days

well dbus is an inter communication protocol, for example you can make gaim talk with banshee and banshee tell xchat what song you are playing.
this is the reason why there must be an user session bus.

Does nothing run these days without gnome

May as well use Ubuntu (j/k)

So just add dbus to daemons and back in business?

exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session --auto-syntax openbox

now that is weird .... @hal is in daemons .... so I guess you cannot background it?

started it as root /etc/rc.d/hal start ..... banshee works
