Minecraft not using GPU

Hey guys,
I have a dedicated RTX3090 in my system and the nvidia proprietary driver installed.
However, when I start minecraft, it always runs on CPU only.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Re: Minecraft not using GPU

How do you surmise that? What's your output of

glxinfo -B

and a Xorg.0.log do you have any other GPUs in the system?

Re: Minecraft not using GPU

oh, my fault sorry! Ingame (F3) it said that it was rendering on the CPU and performance was poor with high CPU usage, thus the conclusion.
However, magically it seems to be rendering on the GPU now, with the weird side-effect that the monitor loses connection one I enter fullscreen.
Migh be related to another issue I'm currently working at.

Re: Minecraft not using GPU

Remove the static xorg.conf and see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … de_setting
Especially the early loading part - the minecraft thing might have been because of the nouveau intermezzo, though.

Also

magically it seems to be rendering on the GPU now

So is the SW rendering now an issue again?

Re: Minecraft not using GPU

I deleted them, so that the previous automaticly generated config does not interefer with the new one, or is this not recommended?
SW rendering is not an issue anymore, sorry for the confusion. Now I get a black screen every time I enter fullscreen, but again this might be related to the other issue.
The initial issue is resolved, so I guess I can close this now.

Re: Minecraft not using GPU

Ah, you deleted the configs when switching betwen nvidia and nouveau.

You should™ not use a static config anyway, but augment the autodetection w/ drop-ins.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#Using_.conf_files and eg. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … figuration

Is the black fullscreen related to the 120Hz or does it happen on lower refresh rates as well?

Re: Minecraft not using GPU

Will do so!

Unfortunately, the blackscreen appears on either refresh rate as soon as I make the app fullscreen in Xmonad. Hasn't happend before the fresh installation, so must be related to something I changed this time.

Re: Minecraft not using GPU

I just noticed, that the blackscreen also occurs when switching other windows such as my browser to fullscreen. Maybe this helps with pinpointing the problem.

Re: Minecraft not using GPU

IIRC there's a bug with the current driver and GSync, check whether you can disable that in nvidia-settings and/or your monitor settings and whether that helps, or downgrade the nvidia driver packages to 470.67 (... for that to work you need to install the current linux-headers and the downgraded nvidia-dkms (... and nvidia-utils, lib32-nvidia-utils) rather than the normal nvidia package)

Re: Minecraft not using GPU

Also what desktop session? Do you use a compositor (eg. from KDE, gnome or xfce or picom/xcompmgr)?
