NVIDIA Driver don't seem to work properly

Hello everyone,

I installed Arch on both of my Computers, one got a GeForce GTX 680, I installed those https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-390xx-dkms/ drivers. After starting steam and activating Proton my games are really slow, basically unplayable.
I don't really get why.

Re: NVIDIA Driver don't seem to work properly

Neither do we.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855

Start w/ the output of "glxinfo -B", "lspci", your xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General and the system journal ("sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'f:1=<-' ix.io")

Re: NVIDIA Driver don't seem to work properly

That looks like a kepler chip which is also still supported by https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-470xx-dkms/
It's the only VGA adapter and you're running on it

[    17.057] (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"

is the nvidia-settings generated junk, you should ideally remove that file and have a look at https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA#Early_loading to make sure the chip is ready for work in time.

There're no ovious issues in those logs, the GPU setup is less than optimal, but ok (w/o any performance impact by the improvements)

my games are really slow, basically unplayable.

Can you quantify that?
Try to suspend the compositor (SHIFT+Alt+F12, the thing that makes shadows and transparency on your desktop), check "top" on whether there's any cpu load and try

time echo "scale=5000; a(1)*4" | bc -l

to measure the available performance of the CPU - anything that lasts significantly longer than 30 seconds is bad.

Re: NVIDIA Driver don't seem to work properly

I compare it to my Notebook with an intel core i5 8th gen CPU, the same games work on it smoothly

time echo "scale=5000; a(1)*4" | bc -l

took about 15s

Re: NVIDIA Driver don't seem to work properly

CPU performance looks ok.

I compare it to my Notebook with an intel core i5 8th gen CPU, the same games work on it smoothly

That's not really a quntification - how much FPS do you get? Or is it more stutter or tearing or what else?

Is it vulkan related?
Maybe https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Steam/ … ith_Vulkan ?

vulkaninfo

Does eg. https://archlinux.org/packages/community/x86_64/warsow/ run nicely?
