I'm using archlinux 0.6. I'm using eepro100 module for my ethernet card, and the network daemon is running. When I boot my machine, I get this:
:: Starting Network [BUSY]
SIOCADDRD: File Exists
[FAIL]
The internet works fine. But if I remove the network daemon, everything the internet doesn't work. And when I halt my machine I get this:
Network not running. Try "network start"
When I /etc/rc.d/network start, I get the same message at the top!
What's this error message about if everything works fine? I have OCD (Obsessive compulsive disorder) and its driving my crazy!

Try adding "alias eth0 eepro100" to /etc/modules.conf (or modprobe.conf if using 2.6). As far as I know you don't have to add the module to rc.conf too, that alias should be enough.

I tried that, it doesn't work. I even added it to rc.conf

Did anyone get to the bottom of this as it happens on my machine as well. Once the Opsys istarted I can then start the Network fine.
Not showstopping, just annoying

Maybe something that's starting later in your DAEMONS needs to be started before the network.
