Turn Arch Linux Laptop Into a FOSS Phone?

Does anyone know if there's an open-source-software way to take the SIM card out of my mobile phone, plug it into my laptop running Arch via USB/etc, and then let Linux emulate phone functionality - most importantly making/receiving phone calls and text messages?

So I'm aware there are open-source-operating-system phones available (like Librem 5, Simple Phone, and PinePhone). What I'm asking though is if there's a solution using my laptop so I can have FOSS phone functionality with the purchase of a small/cheap SIM card adapter rather than purchase of a whole phone.

You would need a mobile broadband modem to put the simcard in.

Thanks. So that would enable the laptop to use a phone data network (internet connection) through the SIM card, but I'm not aware of a software solution to make/receive calls and text messages using that...
