here's what i got for rc.conf
lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
eth0="eth0 192.168.100.30 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.100.255"
eth1="eth1 123.123.123.124 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 123.123.123.255"
INTERFACES=(lo eth1 eth0)
#
# Routes to start at boot-up (in this order)
# Declare each route then list in ROUTES
# - prefix an entry in ROUTES with a ! to disable it
#
gateway0="default gw 192.168.100.6"
gateway1="default gw 123.123.123.1"
ROUTES=(gateway1 gateway0)
i have a webserver running which i can access on the local network with 192.168.100.30 all the time, no matter what happens.
however, if i use the external address, sometimes i can get through, but other times i can't (and i'll check to see that the server is still running because i can VPN in and access using the internal ip address). is there something i'm doing wrong? thanks.

a machine only needs one default gateway. You are giving it two. No wonder it is confused.
Remove the gateway0 entries.
