[SOLVED] Switching from Intel integrated graphics to Nvidia

Recently installed Arch Linux for the first time and noticed it was very slow while gaming and figured out that I was using Mesa Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 instead of Nvidia graphics, I tried a solution from another post but that didn't seem to work out for me.

This was the solution I tried:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=260663

If anyone could help that would be great because I'm very new to Arch and have no idea how to fix this.

Re: [SOLVED] Switching from Intel integrated graphics to Nvidia

If you can't switch completely in BIOS/UEFI which should be preffered:

The simplest, ready made solution for most nvidia cards is installing nvidia-prime and using the prime-run command to start a game in question as described in: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME# … er_offload

On GPUs/CPU combinations like yours that are a bit older, this will lead to not being able to fully suspend the nvidia card while not in which will have a higher power draw. If you want more control over this, other options are outlined in: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA_Optimus -- note that none of the other options outlined here will generally give you better performance than the PRIME method, if performance is your main concern and you don't care about power draw you should stick with PRIME or disabling the iGPU completely.

Re: [SOLVED] Switching from Intel integrated graphics to Nvidia

I now have a different issue, whenever I switch to my nvidia gpu and reboot it shows Failed to start nvidia persistence daemon. Is there a way to fix this?

and when I run lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)" it doesn't even show my nvidia card anymore it just shows intel.

Re: [SOLVED] Switching from Intel integrated graphics to Nvidia

Don't grep for random stuff.

Did you disable the GPU in your BIOS settings?
Please post your complete system journal for the boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

Re: [SOLVED] Switching from Intel integrated graphics to Nvidia

Here is the output of sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st
http://0x0.st/HOFh.txt

Also there is no options in my BIOS regarding the gpu.

Re: [SOLVED] Switching from Intel integrated graphics to Nvidia

Now that I've installed nvidia-lts and enabled drm I used envycontrol to switch from integrated graphics to nvidia which worked fine and told me to reboot but once I did it still says my OpenGL renderer is the intel mesa graphics, is there something I did wrong?

You've configured the system for the nvidia GPU to be the primary one.

I did it still says my OpenGL renderer is the intel mesa graphics

What said where and how?

glxinfo -B

Re: [SOLVED] Switching from Intel integrated graphics to Nvidia

It says its my OpenGL renderer when I look in system settings and when I put in

 glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"

Here is the output of

 glxinfo -B

You've configured the system for the nvidia GPU to be the primary one.

It also says that my gpu device is intel nor do I have a monitor specified for nvidia.

Re: [SOLVED] Switching from Intel integrated graphics to Nvidia

"name of display: :1"
"/var/log/Xorg.0.log"

That's not the display server from the log you posted?

Also the journal say that this is all irrelevant and envycontrol most like won't work or do anything because you're actually running on wayland.

Since the only outputs seem to be attached to the intel chip, is there any reason you're not just leaving the system alone, run a regular prime setup on the IGP and dynamically invoke the GPU by exporting DRI_PRIME ?

Re: [SOLVED] Switching from Intel integrated graphics to Nvidia

I fixed it all I did was switch from Wayland to X11 and now when I put in

glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"

it says that I'm on nvidia.

Thank you for your help.
