Re: External monitor stopped working since last update

Check/post your pacman log on what was actually updated.
Does it still work with the LTS kernel?
Does it show up when booting a live distro like eg. grml?
Do you expect it to be on DP or HDMI?

Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General

pacman log http://0x0.st/HWQk.txt

It doesn't work with the LTS kernel

Xorg log  http://0x0.st/HWQd.txt

It should be HDMI

I didn't get a chance to boot it with a live CD. I'll do it ASAP.

Thanks.

Re: External monitor stopped working since last update

[    10.141] (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
[    10.141] (==) Using system config directory "/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d"
[    10.142] (==) ServerLayout "Layout0"
[    10.142] (**) |-->Screen "Screen0" (0)

[    10.143] (**) |-->Input Device "Keyboard0"
[    10.143] (**) |-->Input Device "Mouse0"

Remove the static server config, it won't help w/ the output but at least you're not enforcing a config then either.

The only packages that are even remotely prone to have caused this seem

[2023-10-02T08:00:01-0400] [ALPM] upgraded mesa (1:23.1.8-1 -> 1:23.2.1-1)
[2023-10-02T08:01:36-0400] [ALPM] upgraded mesa-utils (9.0.0-2 -> 9.0.0-3)
[2023-10-02T08:01:46-0400] [ALPM] upgraded lib32-mesa (1:23.1.8-1 -> 1:23.2.1-1)

[2023-10-02T08:02:59-0400] [ALPM] upgraded sof-firmware (2.2.6-1 -> 2023.09-1)
[2023-10-02T08:00:34-0400] [ALPM] upgraded cpupower (6.3-5 -> 6.5-1)

with a strong bias towards mesa, but I don't think it's any of those.

Does the monitor show up if you re-plug it?
Can you attach it via DP as well?
Are there any converters (HDMI-VGA etc) involved?

I removed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf
I replugged the monitor but I don't see anything in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I don't see anything in dmesg output as well on replugging.
I can't attach it via DP.
There are no converters involved.

Re: External monitor stopped working since last update

I tried connecting my laptop to a different monitor. That didn't work as well.

It works on booting with a live GRML.

Re: External monitor stopped working since last update

I suspect it to be coincidental, the updates don't look like they could to anything and HDCP is time-ciritical and esp. in HDMI notoriously fragile.
Keep an eye on it and if you've the opportunity to change HW (connection, cable, monitor) see whether that has any influence.
