Eduroam disconnects after a few seconds and then it doesn't reconnect

This laptop dual boots with windows and on windows it works fine. Eduroam was also working fine on Arch until recently. A few months ago I had the known problem that Eduroam would connect at all, and I fixed this by adding the line

phase1-auth-flags=32

To the NetworkManager config file. This fixed for a few weeks, but now since 2-3 weeks ago, my Eduroam is super patchy. it connects for something like 10 seconds, and then it disconnects and never reconnects again. I am currectly using my phone as a HotSpot (which Arch has no problem connecting to). Phone is connected to Eduroam fine.

You can see here an output of "journalctl -b 0 | grep NetworkManager"

Re: Eduroam disconnects after a few seconds and then it doesn't reconnect

3rd link below. Mandatory.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.

Then please don't grep unless you precisely know what you're grepping for.
Please post your complete system journal for the boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

And for a quick sanity check please post the output of

find /etc/systemd -type l -exec test -f {} \; -print | awk -F'/' '{ printf ("%-40s | %s\n", $(NF-0), $(NF-1)) }' | sort -f

And for a quick sanity check please post the output of

find /etc/systemd -type l -exec test -f {} \; -print | awk -F'/' '{ printf ("%-40s | %s\n", $(NF-0), $(NF-1)) }' | sort -f

Complete system journal for the boot: http://0x0.st/HtrH.txt you can see how for 5 minutes or so it connects to eduroam, and then it disconnects (and I connect it to my phone)

And the output of your second command:

[juanma@latitude ~]$ find /etc/systemd -type l -exec test -f {} \; -print | awk -F'/' '{ printf ("%-40s | %s\n", $(NF-0), $(NF-1)) }' | sort -f

There're at least 3 "eduroam" SSIDs, you connect to the one on 2437 before you log-in.
~3 minutes after the login wpa_supplicant tries to get onto the 5220 AP (which had originally failed) and then you're losing the connection altogether.

Next to windows fast-start
- disable https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … domization
- try to pin the BSSID https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … ets_(WiFi)

Connecting to the 5GHz AP of your phone seems no problem, so it's not the 5GHz support per se and you probably don't want to deactivate that.
If it turns out to be a problem w/ the specific 5GHz BSSID, you could blacklist that: https://superuser.com/questions/472731/ … s-by-bssid

But you're also struggling to get the inital lease itfp

Is the signal very poor?

Re: Eduroam disconnects after a few seconds and then it doesn't reconnect

Based on windows, signal strength is around 80%. The laptop is now hotspotting to my phone, which is also connected to eduroam without any problems.

Windows fastboot/faststart has been long disabled.

it happens every time I start the laptop, eduroam works fine for a few minutes, and then it just disconnects. See here another output: http://0x0.st/HtvR.txt

Eduroam has been working fine in this laptop, in this location, for around 2 years. Then it started to have the known problems with wpa_suppling and I had to change the auth thing in networkmanager. From that moment on, it has never worked well. For the last month or so, it connects for 5 minutes and then it disconnects. But before all of these problems happened with some update, it was working fine.

Based on windows, signal strength

is useless.

This has nothing to do with "eduroam", you try and fail
30:cb:c7:03:2e:03 (SSID='eduroam' freq=5220 MHz)
make it to
30:cb:c7:04:2c:13 (SSID='eduroam' freq=5280 MHz)
and then only try and fail
30:cb:c7:03:0e:c3 (SSID='eduroam' freq=2437 MHz)
30:cb:c7:03:df:13 (SSID='eduroam' freq=5220 MHz)
30:cb:c7:02:ea:63 (SSID='eduroam' freq=5200 MHz)
30:cb:c7:02:cb:23 (SSID='eduroam' freq=2412 MHz)

Previously you just about made it to 30:cb:c7:04:0c:d3 and then fail on random others - interesitingly at least in the last one the previously successful AP was never re-considered and it's also no clear why NM swicthes it itfp.
The trigger seems *maybe*

Nov 08 07:42:31 latitude NetworkManager[388]: <info> [1699429351.6711] manager: kernel firmware directory '/lib/firmware' changed
Nov 08 07:42:33 latitude systemd[1]: Reloading requested from client PID 2473 ('systemctl') (unit user@1000.service)...

after

Nov 08 07:41:25 latitude sudo[1748]: juanma : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/juanma ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/pacman -S -y -u --config /etc/pacman.conf --

?

But there's some issue with the APs and it's not that you're getting rejected or the authentication fails, they simply don't reply (which is why I'd recommend to disable the MAC randomization b/c some APs consider that malicious)
