Has anyone successfully installed dwl with an ipc patch along with dwlbar?
I'm trying to replicate my dwm install if/when I opt to move to wayland.
I have seen some videos and online tutorials most of which are about a year old, and versions back then "seem" to work but it appears not recent releases.
Of course following them, has proven to be unsuccessful.
Anyways, I know that X will be support for a long time yet (and by no means am I a wayland fan), but like Xfree86, the end will come soon enough.
I would rather not stray from a dwm-like wm, but at least I have worked a bit with sway if for some reasons, X falls off the earth in the next few months.
Any guidance would be helpful.

As will this thread if you don't tell us more (or even *something*) about what went wrong:

I understand your point however, I am not looking for help on how to fix something, just looking for something more recent that does not involve FreeBSD or anything that does not include the points (ipc in both dwl and dwl-bar) I asked about.
I have wrestled with this for the better of a week and on its own, dwl installs and runs fine without ipc and I have thought about not bothering with dwl-bar and just using waybar (however, that too has limitations - neededing ipc patching).
For shits n giggles I installed hyprland just to see if it would work. I does so that does eliminate some questions I had.
Again, I am not asking for help - just looking to see if anyone knows of or has a recent and practice guide on how. Nothing more. I expected this thread to go about as far as all the searches I have done this past week so...

Do you want to hear international jokes about the intellectual implications of banning books, applied on your oxymoron (that's not an insult, look it up in a dict… oh, sorry)
I'll make an ass out of you and me, you want to apply https://dwm.suckless.org/patches/ipc/ to https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dwl but "patch" doesn't work because the patch was drawn against a completely different source file.
The way how to do that is with a text editor and apply the code manually.

There are actual IPC patches for dwl itself that are not modified dwm ipc patches but instead use a dwl-specific wayland protocol. But there are at least a couple of these patches: one for wlroots0.16 code and one for the current wlroots (0.17) based code. They are both well documented by their authors. So I'm not sure what more is needed.
If the existing documentation does not work, and additional help is sought, we are going to need to know *what* went wrong.
Of course, if your question really truly is just "has anyone successfully used the dwl IPC patch?" then the answer is simple: YES. Given that you insist this is really your only question, and it has now been answered, please edit your first post to mark the thread as [SOLVED].
