How to safely use Tor ?

I saw a similar topic here, I hope I am writing in the right place. Otherwise I kindly ask the moderators to move it.

I read somewhere that when using tor, turn off everything like webcam-microphone etc. when using tor. Is this necessary ? Is there anything else I should pay attention to ? I want to access `some` forums that are not available on the normal internet. What are the things I should pay attention to ? Will Linux, especially Arch Linux, provide me with a solid protection ?

Should I use a VPN? Or rather, should I use a paid VPN? I mean, should the paranoia level be high and active? smile

What is the difference between the Dark Web and the Deep Web? I would like to ask a few questions in the field of Cyber Security to those forums.

Re: How to safely use Tor ?

Foremost, we need to distinguish two Tor programs: the Tor node and the Tor web browser. The Tor web browser is used by end users for privacy. The Tor node program implements the Tor network; in particular, it implements an internet service. The Tor web browser connects to Tor nodes.

This indicates that you wish to use Tor in order to strengthen your privacy. Then you need the Tor web browser.

These decisions depend on your level of paranoia. There are special Linux distribution designed for privacy, for example, Whonix. They may be better than Arch Linux. There are many ways to break privacy. Discussing them can easily fill a specialized forum. The only piece of advice I have for you is to learn.

AFAIK, VPN is unnecessary with Tor because it can be seen as a weaker form of Tor. With Tor, your connection chain is longer (three nodes instead of one) and you replace nodes in this connection chain regularly.

Re: How to safely use Tor ?

Deep Web is everything that's not accessible by search engines .
A few examples
websites that are for internal use only
anything behind a paywall
the 3 boards under /dev/null on this BBS
private bug trackers

The dark web is a subset of the deep web that is not accessible through standard protocols ike http but only through special protocols (typically supported by the tor browser.).

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
