Hello, guys!
Gnome-network-manager starts but doesn't show its icon in Notification Area.
ps -A shows that the process is running correctly.
[sergo@myhost ~]$ ps -A |grep nm
4360 pts/2 00:00:00 nm-applet
I carefully studied all solutions listed here. My DAEMONS string is
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng !hotplug !pcmcia network netfs crond alsa sensors portmap fam dbus hal dhcdbd networkmanager networkmanager-dispatcher @cups gdm)
Please help.

It's been a while since I used the network manager but try this just in case it is purely an icon problem:
gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor/
Offline
Alas, it's not an icon problem
[root@myhost ~]# gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor/
Cache file created successfully.
Nothing changes.

I think you have to disable "network" too -- like DAEMONS=(..., !network, ...)

You have to disable network daemon, also disable any network devices in rc.conf but lo.

As moo said, comment out the network daemon and comment out any interface so it will look like INTERFACES=(lo, !eth0) Make sure lo is there.
