Serious flicker issue with FreeSync enabled since linux-zen-6.10

There is no such problem with linux-zen-6.9.10, but once I update to linux-zen-6.10, the SDDM and Gnome desktop has serious flicker issue, sometimes there are few seconds in black screen.

It also affects the game if adaptive sync on Plasma desktop is disabled when the monitor freesync is enabled.

Re: Serious flicker issue with FreeSync enabled since linux-zen-6.10

There have been various issues reported on 6.10, 6.10.1 is out now, have you tried to see if that is any better? If not, try downgrading to 6.9.10 and if the issue goes away we know that it's likely related to the kernel regression.

Yes, it is the same
Before 6.10, everything works fine

Also did you check if this issue is specific to -zen or also present in the "linux" package?

FWIW:

I am using sway with adaptive_sync = off, and had similar issues.  The top quarter or third of my screen flickered, especially whenever I opened a new window.  Downgrading from linux-6.10.1.arch1-1-x86_64 to linux-6.9.10.arch1-1-x86_64 fixed it.  This is with an AMD processor and GPU.

Me, too. However, it usually doesn't happen on Plasma desktop environment, only if I play a game with gamescope without enabling adaptive-sync in Plasma, once it happens, the flickering issue remains until I reboot my PC.

On the Gnome side, it happens all the time, although I have enabled the experimental VRR.

Re: Serious flicker issue with FreeSync enabled since linux-zen-6.10

This could be a kernel regression, which should be bisected and reported upstream to the kernel developers and the regression mailing list ..

Are you confident to do the bisection on your own or do you need some help? smile
If you want I could also provide you with pre-built kernel images for you to test ..

Good info to get you started is:
- https://docs.kernel.org/admin-guide/rep … sions.html
- https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … egressions

It still happens on linux-mainline kernel, I installed it from the ArchWiki unofficial repo.
6.10.0-1-mainline
Building mainline kernel from AUR takes too much time.

So would you be willing to test prebuilt kernel images?

I will do the bisection and build the needed kernels and you just install and test them, you can see i.e. https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/ … ote_196262 for an example on how we would do that smile

Re: Serious flicker issue with FreeSync enabled since linux-zen-6.10

To get things started, please test the following:

sudo pacman -U https://pkgbuild.com/\~gromit/linux-bisection-kernels/linux-mainline-v6.9.r7370.g33e02dc-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

Note that you'll have to teach your bootloader how to boot the linux-mainline image, but that's usually not hard smile Also no need to hurry, just get back to me once you had the chance to test

I still see the issue with this kernel.

I don't see the problem with this one
[laichiaheng@Julian-PC ~]$ uname -r
6.9.0-1-mainline-03117-gb850dc206a57

No more flickering or tearing.

Assuming that NG means "not good" I have marked the previous revision as bad.
Pleas try the following:

sudo pacman -U https://pkgbuild.com/\~gromit/linux-bisection-kernels/linux-mainline-v6.9.rc2.r468.g3463315-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
