Hello fellow Arch Linux Lovers!
Im currently taking classes for linux certification and i do alot of things on this system for learning, and imho the best way i learn is messing stuff up then learning how to fix or prevent the problem in the future.
What i am looking for is a simple way i can backup my customized Arch distro with all the packages and settings and easily install it again with out haing to Pacman the big stuff ( like gnome, openoffice, etc.)
Ive thought about writing a script basically from my history after i get everything stable, but im a impatient person. You see i have a junky slow dsl connection so it takes forever for me to DL all my packages. Second ive come across something called larch, but am not sure if its what i need... btw everytime i try to google for it i cant seem to find what everyone is talking about....
Im open for all suggestions, Thanks
Arch Lover,
Amphaeon

I use partimage to backup my Arch system-partition (I have no extra partitions for /boot etc.).
One partitoin for the whole system and one for data (mp3, movies, ect.). In about 15min I get a complete backup of my Arch system and if needed it tooks less than 15min to restore it.
I boot from a live CD that contains partimage mount the data-partition and write the backup of the system-partition on it.
Note: the partition you want to backup must not be mounted!
I use this live CD

but you can use any other which contains partimage, e.g. KNOPPX, it's also possible to run partiamge from a second linux installation, if you have one.
another way is to use tar to backup your system (the "Gentoo-stage4-way")

I use KDar. It works pretty well and is easy to customize. You'll find it in aur.

a) You should open a new thread instead of reviving threads that are over 2 years old.
b) Booting from a LiveCD is best if you want to 'capture' a complete running system in a state that's suitable for complete restoration.
