Home wifi mesh problem

I can connect to the wifi, but after a while it says no internet connection even though signal is okay. Just got a mesh system set up at home and all my other devices have no problem using the wifi.

Re: Home wifi mesh problem

What wifi card, what wifi adapter, which network manager, which network band? https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855

Assuming you get some form of  a connection, what output do you get from

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st
find /etc/systemd -type l -exec test -f {} \; -print | awk -F'/' '{ printf ("%-40s | %s\n", $(NF-0), $(NF-1)) }' | sort -f

ah sorry, im using realtek 8852ae with networkmanager + wpa_supplicant and probably running on both 2.4 and 5Ghz. IIRC the mesh device is xiaomi BE6500/BE5000.

it connects and works for a while, like 2-3 minutes and that's it.

i'm not able to run the command rn, though. will reply later.

Re: Home wifi mesh problem

realteks are sadly quite notorious for less than stellar drivers. Can you try adding

rtw89_core.disable_ps_mode=y

to your https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters

Re: Home wifi mesh problem

Also "rtw89_pci.disable_aspm_l1ss=Y rtw89_pci.disable_aspm_l1=Y" (assuming you're using that driver)

Post an updated journal that covers such connection losses.

Re: Home wifi mesh problem

No, the complete journal.
Please post your complete system journal for the boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

That snippet there shows you being connected for 1s and then stops and has no indication of any connection loss.

You're disconnecting three times by local choice - what if your disable NM and connect w/ wifi_menu from the netctl package (or wpa_supplicant manually, but wifi_menu will do for this test)

Edit: none of the suggested kernel parameters is in that log?

This is the log after using netctl. I forgot to start systemd-resolved before starting netctl service so there might be some lines about that.

Weird. Tbh i don't know much about this. I did add them to modprobe and double checked in /sys/module/rtw89_core and rtw89_pci

Re: Home wifi mesh problem

They'd only show up as actual kernel parameters, not via modprobe.
More importantly, is this now stable? dhcpd deosn't complain about carrier losses.

Re: Home wifi mesh problem

Sadly not sad

Edit: The problem only happens with this home wifi, not all of them. This also happens on NixOS.

Re: Home wifi mesh problem

Do you get more stable behavior w/ https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Iwd
By "a mesh system set up at home" do you mean a range extender?
I'd look at the roaming behavior of iwd and wpa_supplicant (see the wiki) and try  to prevent that…
