Hi everyone, I've just got a new Framework laptop that has the mt7925 wireless card.
Has anyone had problems connecting to some wifi extenders?
I have a Movistar/Askey wifi router and I can connect to it, but when I try to connect to the Netgear EX6250v2 extender then it doesn't. I've tried both the 2.5 and 5 ghz channel, so I don't think it's related to any 6 or 7 ghz issue.
I'm trying to figure out what's wrong, on the router side there isn't much configuration that I can do, and all my other devices connect to it without issues, so it's just the mt7925.
When I try to connect from the Plasma NetworkManager it gets stuck on the "Setting network address" for a bit showing a "Limited Connectivity" message and then disconnect after ~45s with a "IP configuration was unavailable" message.
This is what I have:
OS: Arch
Kernel: 6.14.3-arch1-1
KDE / Plasma: 6.3.4
I've been trying using both iwd and wpa_supplicant, as well as changing the dhcp client to both dhcpcd and dhclient (as recommended here), but it keeps failing.
I also went through this and:
- restarted the router
- checked other connected devices
- ipv4.method is set to auto
- tried to disable random mac
- tried to enable a guest network on the extender without password and connect to it on both 2 and 5 ghz
And then from this I've tried to:
- disable docker and ufw
- set p2p_device=no
But none of these worked.
Any thoughts on what I could try next? I'm running out of ideas.
Here some logs:

There seems no problem connecting to the AP, but you don't get a dhcp lease.
Does the router provide dhcp at all?
Dos it implement a MAC filter?
Does disabling https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … domization help? (some APs consider that malicious and stop talking to you)

Is there a parallel OS (windows)?

Does the router provide dhcp at all?
I don't see any setting in the Netgear extender, it seems it's relying that to the main router and getting it from there, which has it.
As by checking on another laptop that runs pretty much the same SW (NM, wpa_supplicant, etc) can connect and the IP is from the main router, also confirmed from the "connected devices" page in it.
Dos it implement a MAC filter?
There is an access control in the extender to deny access (I suppose based on the MAC), but it's disabled. And also on the main router I don't see any blocked MAC/device.
Does disabling https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … domization help? (some APs consider that malicious and stop talking to you)
I've tried that, it kept failing with the same error

I've tried, still failing with the same error
Is there a parallel OS (windows)?
No, it only has Arch (fresh install from scratch from a few days ago)
I've also tried to change the hostname to a different one just as something else to try, but still the same result.

As a quick test I've tried to set a manual/static IP on the NM config and I was able to connect, which mainly confirms the problem on the dhcp to get the ip.
At home I'd be fine with setting that and reserving it on the router as well, but I'm worried that it could also happen with other routers when I travel and have no ability to do the same and being locked out without any other device.

I'm having various problems with this chip, although in my case, it will connect to the 2.4GHz network from the same router.
Sometimes it'll also stop working and I need to disable/enable wifi to get it working again.

I have EXACTLY the same issues with mt7925, internet is unstable, but it just keeps swapping states
journalctl shows this, moreover after NetworkManager goes into CONNECTED_SITE, internet disappears and it may not go back to CONNECTED_GLOBAL, then i should enable\disable again

The OP can access the AP, though - only dhcp fails.
I don't thnik this is related to the NIC, but the dhcp response gets bumbled by the router/extender chain.
sudo nmap --script broadcast-dhcp-discover
https://nmap.org/nsedoc/scripts/broadca … cover.html
According to the manual, the netgear extender can operate as AP, as mere extender and also forward the routers SSID (and probably BSSID)
The needlessly obfuscated "94:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx" doesn't look like it's from netgear (the first three blocks are the OUI, NG doesn't start w/ 94) - have you tried the other modes of the extender?
Edit, @mrAndersen - we'll need more of the journal than two lines from NM indicating that you can no longer ping archlinux (but maybe/probably still the gateway) to figure what's going on there.
Again: the OP, this thread, is about dhcp issues with a wifi chain. There's no indication that the wifi doesn't work at all.

@seth, here you go, ping is basically hanging endlessly, 10.254 - is the router itself which is also not responding
[mrandersen@pc ~]$ ping -c1 8.8.8.8
PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8) 56(84) bytes of data.
^C
--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 0ms
[mrandersen@pc ~]$ ping -c1 192.168.10.254
PING 192.168.10.254 (192.168.10.254) 56(84) bytes of data.
^C
--- 192.168.10.254 ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 0ms
The whole log, second "blackout" was around 17:31 log time, logs this time are literally clean, moreover at 2.4Ghz seems like everything works fine

I'm having similar issues with mt7925 in a new Lenovo on 6.14.3 and 6.14.4 (and mainline 6.15rc3, which I tested because I saw some recent fixes), but it's perfectly fine on 6.12.25 LTS. But I'm having issues with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, so it's interesting that others have experienced better results on 2.4GHz.
Can the Framework users here also try the LTS kernel to see if we have the same issue? If so we can try bisecting to the problem.
From searching around, it seems that this module might be prone to regressions and bugs. I hope with Framework and Lenovo now using it there will be better support.
EDIT: Fellow Lenovo users, be advised that this may be an issue exclusive to our combination of 880M/860M/840M and MT7925: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/3926

Change the router's 5 GHz channel(s) to a non-DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) channel. Connections on such channels may be dropped or suddenly switched due to interference from nearby weather radar.

@seth i was testing this yesterday and today and at first glance it looked like the problem was gone, however unfortunately no, the only stable solution is 2.4Ghz currently, but amount of disconnects are surely less with this option enabled, i've got 1 yesterday and 1 today, VS many per hour by default

Do you have a journal for that run - maybe w/o the DFS noise something else lights up…

I can post something like this, exactly when NM goes into CONNECTED_SITE internet disappears, and after going back to CONNECTED_GLOBAL, this happens randomly, i can't really understand the reason, can also post wavemon, maybe signal is not enough however on old intel chip everyhing was fine with that kind of signal

The posted segment shows what happens *after* you go to CONNECTED_SITE (after a minute you (re?)turn to CONNECTED_GLOBAL) - all of that ~10 minutes after a successful rekey.
The difference between CONNECTED_SITE and CONNECTED_GLOBAL is https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … nnectivity - when this happens, can you still "ping _gateway"?
Also please don't embed huge images and don't post pictures of text, post the text.
The screnshot indicates a rather poor 5GHz connection - can you get closer to the AP and see whether that stabilizes the network?

Hello, I was also having this similar issue where I could connect but not get an address assignment for some networks. My PC is also a new framework laptop, specifically the AMD Ryzen 350. After lots of testing and digging around, I believe it has been fixed in 6.14.8 with this commit:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commi … a16643a3dc
If this indeed is the same issue, it seems like this started with 6.14.3. Running the linux-cachyos kernel since its on 6.14.8 while arch is still on 6.14.7 at the time of writing, and I have been able to successfully connect to networks that were timing out on assignment.
