when you need your personalized settings of an application you take the PKGBUILD of that app from abs and you personalize it.
in my computers i create a folder called /var/abs.local and there i put my personalized PKGBUILDS. What people usually does is to put them in /var/abs/local, but i don't like to have it mixed.
so:
1 - su -
2 - abs
3 - cp -r /var/abs/devel/php /var/abs.local (or /var/abs/local)
4 - cd /var/abs.local/php
5 - vi PKGBUILD
6 - personalize the ./configure to have your personalized settings
7 - quit from vi
8 - makepkg
9 - install it (pacman -U php-5.xx-x.pkh.tar.gz)
10 - vi /etc/pacman.conf
11 - add in the [options] section: (if you want to add more packages separe them with spaces)
IgnorePkg=php
IgnorePkg will make show you a message saying: Package php upgrade ignored. run pacman -S <package> to install it manually. This way you know when you ahve tu run abs again and update your personalized PKGBUILD.
Hope this helps
