Suddenly no sound output

Hi,

i am using this arch install since many years. Using the audio setup since >1 year without issues.

Sabaj A4 Amp via USB, then normal speakers.

Verified that the Amp+Speakers work via Bluetooth connection to my phone.

Usually it worked flawlessly but at some point the last....weeks? months? the sound just stopped working. No output of videos, local soundfiles, spotify, no system sounds.

alsa-info.sh provides the following info, i hope they are of use.

Your alsa config enforces card 1 which is not your usb amp. Pipewire is running however, if you don't have the intention of using ALSA directly, you should remove the configuration you created and install pipewire-alsa instead, then while trying "not working sound" post

Re: Suddenly no sound output

Understood, you are right. The asoundrc is old, but i do not know why the Amp still worked the last months... However, i removed the file, installed pipewire-alsa.
Spotify & Factorio running, yet still silent.

systemctl --user stop pulseaudio
sudo pacman -S pipewire-pulse #Say yes to the removal of pulseaudio
systemctl --user restart pipewire-pulse wireplumber pipewire

You're currently running a conflicting situation between wireplumber and pulseaudio, since pulse is mostly not in active development anymore, get rid of it, replace it with pipewire's pulse emulation. This might fix things already but one thing we're seeing that you have the digital out profile selected and you potentially want analog, but you should first and foremost clean up the pulseaudio/wireplumber/pipewire situation.

Analog vs digital - i guess i do want digital, but pavucontrol currently says "analogue".
It works, so i will not touch it.

Ending line: Very confusing for "normal" poeple to get behind the soundstack of alsa/pulse/jack/pulsewire and whatnot...

There has been a bit of a shift in recent years and pipewire has predominantly become a major building block in video/desktop sharing for Wayland/flatpak systems, so chances some somewhat more recent dependency chain pulled in wireplumber which will (soft-)conflict with pulseaudio by default (you can configure things to keep pulseaudio as the audio daemon, but with recent developments there's seldom a reason to really prefer it over pipewire).
