[SOLVED] Can't connect to wi-fi in Plasma

(Solved - I connect to hotspot and then quickly switch to wi-fi)
Hello, this is my first post in this forum, so I might not be able to provide certain info. I cannot connect to my house internet in Plasma. On Hyprland via nmtui I can do it mostly without issues, but Plasma does not cooperate. I tried to forget the network and connect again, but that made it permanently think I gave it the incorrect password, so I am currently forced to connect in Hyprland and then switch to Plasma because thank God connection is stored between sessions.

Considering nmtui works on Hypr but not Plasma, I suspect plasma-nm might be an important culprit.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't connect to wi-fi in Plasma

First off, going to hyprland to use nmtui makes no sense at all. Just use it from any terminal emulator or tty.

The difference is going to be how the password is being stored. plasma-nm gives you the option of storing it for all users as plain text, or storing it encrypted in kwallet. Or not storing it at all. There's probably a disconnect between what you have plasma-nm doing and what you have nmtui doing. What setting are you using for each?

Re: [SOLVED] Can't connect to wi-fi in Plasma

The problem is, when I try to use nmtui on plasma with the exact same method I use in hypr, it still refuses to work. Also I could never get tty to work.
I think I don't have kwallet installed, so the password is probably in plain text in plasma-nm's case. How do I check for nmtui?

Does https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … i_examples work on plasma?

When entering the credentials on nmtui, can you see the password or just some **** ?
If you just type it into konsole (don't hit enter), do the keys produce what you think they should produce?

That is really critical information, that means plasma-nm has nothing to do with the problem. Seth's likely on to something with the keyboard layout, do you have that set in hyprland's config?

Re: [SOLVED] Can't connect to wi-fi in Plasma

Yesterday after turning my laptop off, I realised I was using kitty on hypr and konsole on plasma. So today I tried connecting via nmtui on kitty on plasma, and it surely does work.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't connect to wi-fi in Plasma

It's not very likely that the TE has any impact here.
Compare the output of

printenv

between the two.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't connect to wi-fi in Plasma

I managed to find a much faster way (quickly switching from hotspot to my home wi-fi) but I'll still send the comparison for fun:
kitty lacks the WINDOWID, KGLOBALACCELD_PLATFORM, SHELL_SESSION_ID, KONSOLE_DBUS_SERVICE (although that's probably just konsole exclusive), WAYLAND_DISPLAY, KONSOLE_DBUS_SESSION (ditto), KONSOLE_DBUS_WINDOW (ditto) and OLDPWD entries, but has the KITTY_PID (ditto), TERMINFO, and KITTY_INSTALLATION_DIR (ditto) entires unlike konsole. All the TE-related entries obviously differ, and I couldn't notice any differences in the entries not related to them.

"WAYLAND_DISPLAY" so kitty is an https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Waylan … plications client?
