[nautilus] Unable to open the file manager

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum, and if I'm posting in the wrong channel, please excuse me in advance.

I'm running Gnome 49 and I'm having a problem with Nautilus, the file manager.

I assume it's due to an update, as I haven't done anything in particular.

When I launch Nautilus using the shortcut on the dash, Nautilus doesn't launch.

I open a terminal and type nautilus, then press Enter.

And this is what I get:

[ ionot66@HP ] [ ~ ]
██ nautilus
** Message: 14:48:08.558: Connecting to org.freedesktop.Tracker3.Miner.Files
/usr/lib/python3.13/site-packages/gi/module.py:142: Warning: g_boxed_type_register_static: assertion 'g_type_from_name (name) == 0' failed
g_type = info.get_g_type()
/usr/lib/python3.13/site-packages/gi/module.py:142: Warning: g_once_init_leave: assertion 'result != 0' failed
g_type = info.get_g_type()
/usr/lib/python3.13/site-packages/gi/module.py:184: Warning: g_type_get_qdata: assertion 'node != NULL' failed
type_ = g_type.pytype

I searched the web and this forum too, but I couldn't find a solution.

Thank you in advance to everyone for your suggestions.

Re: [nautilus] Unable to open the file manager

Is that the entire output? It doesn't say anything about crashing or exiting.

Re: [nautilus] Unable to open the file manager

Is there a stale instance?

ps aux | grep -i nautilus

Hello and thank you for the feedback.

Yes, that's all that's displayed.

I don't think there is an obsolete instance.

I'll give you the result of the command you mentioned.

Re: [nautilus] Unable to open the file manager

strace -f -o /tmp/nautilus.strace nautilus
cat /tmp/nautilus.strace | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st # this will upload the file, maybe check its size and in doubt gzip it

Re: [nautilus] Unable to open the file manager

Edit your post, remove the spam, post the link you got from 0x0.st

Edit: then

pacman -Qikk nautilus localsearch
ps aux | grep -i localse
loginctl session-status
echo $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS

Re: [nautilus] Unable to open the file manager

Please use [code][/code] tags. Edit your post in this regard.

ionot66     2822  3.3  1.0 951924 82896 ?        DNsl déc.13   3:47 /usr/lib/localsearch-3

Do you see the uppercase "D", the process is waiting for some IO, doesn't respond to dbus and nautilus legit doesn't start if it cannot talk to the surveillance daemon… roll
Check the system journal for IO errors or anything related to localsearch - this might just be a bug in the tracker-replacement but could also be because of some hardware issues (notably your disk!)

Re: [nautilus] Unable to open the file manager

hello
I installed Nemo to have a file manager while waiting to find a solution,
and Nemo is working.
Could you give me the command to view the system log to see if there are any I/O errors?

Thank you for your time spent on my problem.

Re: [nautilus] Unable to open the file manager

Please post your complete system journal for the boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

An immediate solution would be to snipe that process out of uninterruptible sleep, in doubt by rebooting.
But again: could be indicating a hardware problem…

Re: [nautilus] Unable to open the file manager

Have you looked at it?
It's 13MB spam

Did you enable some debug flags?
I've rarely seen so much spam in a journal.

Also https://www.lorenzobettini.it/2025/03/d … 47-and-48/
Apparently you can trick that thing by removing the extractor rules

I haven't but maybe you wanna give https://archlinux.org/packages/?sort=&q … =&flagged= a try…

Re: [nautilus] Unable to open the file manager

hello

No, I haven't enabled certain debug indicators. I don't have the level.

I'll try what you suggest.

Thank you.
