Hi,
yay shows an update as below:
:: 1 package to upgrade/install.
1 aur/webkit2gtk 2.50.6-1 -> 2.50.6-5
On starting the update process, I get various warning along the way only to get stuck at 19% after 5 hours or more. The whole DE was not responding and so had to manually pull the plug.
Were can I find the log for this and maybe troubleshoot?
Thanks

Nowhere because

of the hard reboot.
Chances are you're OOM and thrashing swap (you do have swap space, right)?
Make sure to have sufficiently free RAM (in doubt run the update from a multi-user.target login) and do NOT try to (overaggressively) use https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Makepk … ompilation
It might also help to not use yay to get control over the build process and keep an eye on the free RAM (top)

I have not set swap but I have 16GB of RAM. So maybe yes, it can be a case of OOM. I have now removed the package which also had "icaclient" as a dependent. I'll try installing these two packages again. yay shows "Build Files Exist" for these two though. I'll get back later how the installation went. I need to learn about login by "multi-user.target". I have never done that. Will try that too.
Thank you seth.

had the fun to rebuild the pack 3 times over the weekend
takes quite some time on a amd 5600 with 12x 4.5ghz
as for ram: from 32gb installed it hogged over 20gb constant while building - so with just 16gb total you likely just ran out of ram - with just 16gb you should have swap anyway these days - even i have additional swap of 32gb in a swap partition on my nvme - which i sometimes do load with a few gb - so even my 32gb of physical ram ain't enough sometimes
as for citrix hard-depend on that specific version: have a look at the aur pages of both webkit and icaclient - it's already being worked on

I meant the current comments on

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/icaclient
as for the multiple rebuilds: https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/ … webkit2gtk

Oh, there's quite some noise - missed that ![]()
I just saw the high build version, saw the multiple PKGBUILD updates and thought updating to (beyond) this one might help to avert the OOM condition.

I had a look at RAM usage and most of it is unused while the installation is going on:
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 15Gi 3.2Gi 9.1Gi 31Mi 3.1Gi 12Gi
Swap: 0B 0B 0B

I had htop open and mine jumped around all over from less than 20gb all the way to almost 30gb - or about what you posted as free
but - as seth mentioned: this depends on optimization - i ran it with 12 threads to fully utilize my entire cpu - which requires way more ram then when you go for a single or maybe two threads
anyway - let's see how this plays out with citrix - when this gets resolved we don't need 4.0 anymore sparing us from quite some long compiling from source (fun fact: even fully utilizing my entire system webkit took longer then compiling the kernel)

You keep saying install, is this while *building* the package or while *installing* the package? These are two separate steps, and are very different issues.

Yeah mine has been running for about 12 hours straight now.. This is on a 4690k with 16g, the memory use is just ramping up then dropping and repeating endlessly but it's not ooming.

Have tried hard reboot?

it's not halted.. I don't see why I would want to do that

@Cordtus have you explored switching whatever requires webkit2gtk to webkit2gtk-4.1? Also is makepkg on your system configured for parallel compilation or is it being built sequentially?

How do I switch to webkit2gtk-4.1? Should I first install it with yay and then try installing Citrix?

Ok here is what i did the first time:
1. yay in terminal to check for updates
2. Accepted the package to be updated only to get stuck
Lately I tried this:
1. yay -Scc
2. yay -R webkit2gtk (which showed it is being used by icaclient)
3. Removed both webkit2gtk and icaclient
4. yay -S icaclient
5. Same issue repeated.
In both cases it showed "Build File Exists" if that matters.

Get stuck WHERE? What was actually happening? If you don't know, stop using you helper script and figure out how AUR packages are actually managed.

Remove webkit2gtk and install webkit2gtk-4.1 from main repo.

It shows:
Making package: webkit2gtk 2.50.6-5
Checking runtime dependencies...
Checking buildtime dependencies...
WARNING: Using existing $srcdir/ tree
Starting build()...
From there it goes on building until it reached 19% and then no response. Not in terminal nor in desktop.
I have now enabled parallel compilation and the process is now at 33%. Let's wait.

Remove webkit2gtk and install webkit2gtk-4.1 from main repo.
You would also need to adjust all PKGBUILDs that reference webkit2gtk and it will not work with binary only packages like icaclient that still require webgit2gtk.

as of now this doesn't work because the current citrix client 26.01.0.150 has a hard dependency of webkit 4.0
see https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/icaclient as already mentioned above (would be helpfull if you would read the entire topic to know what the cause of the issie is - this would avoid double replies)
@OP
if you trust i can upload a build pack on github so you don't have to build yourself

Apologies for post 18. I was aware that changes had to be made in any package builds. But shouted too soon. No problems for me yet.
