Network Manager Password Prompt

I am connecting to the wireless network using rc.conf.  I installed networkmanager and go it set up.  It worked fine for a couple of times.  Now when I rebooted I got prompted for a WEP key.  The network only uses an ESSID and I can't get past this prompt.  I disabled networkmanager and went back to the "old" way and the network is working fine.  How do I force networkmanager to stop wanting a key and let me on the network?
