Improving wireless reception with Madwifi?

Back when I used Ubuntu, Mint, Sabayon, and other distributions with Madwifi preinstalled, I noticed that getting onto a wireless network was much easier than it has been when I've installed it myself, or on certain other distributions (MEPIS, for example). Why is this? I use the "ath_pci" Atheros module from the Madwifi package, and I'd like to improve my ability to et on wireless networks. While I know that, so long as they all use Madwifi, I'm getting the same "performance" with all of them, but how can I have greater success with hopping onto networks?

Re: Improving wireless reception with Madwifi?

I've used Arch and the madwifi drivers for a few years and I've never had range problems.  I've even bounced to ubuntu and gentoo a few times.  Maybe I'm just not that obeservant.  Just my $.02
