web proxy software

newbie question here.  i'm in china and so i can't access certain sites like the wiki, google videos, etc.  most of the time i use a web proxy like anonymouse.org, but it doesn't solve all my problems, i still can't download from sites i access through the web proxies, watch google videos, etc.  can anyone recommend any software that i can install?  a friend pointed me towards tor, but i couldn't get it to work.

Re: web proxy software

big_smile:D If you have a friend outside China, as them to set up Httptunnel. In side this tunnel you can have another VPN tunnel or SSH Port Forwarding, for example. Traffic will be encrypted and nobody knows what the hell is going on inside the tunnel. With this way i can easily bypass any firewall and get anything i want on the internet.:cool::cool:

Re: web proxy software

Why didn't tor work?

You can try jap.

But you should be aware that these services (tor, jap) will actually reduce your surfing speed.
So it's not really useful for watching videos or downloading huge files.
