eth0 oddity

I can't get eth0 to work

revalant rc.conf lines:

eth0="eth0 192.168.2.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.2.255"
INTERFACES=(lo eth0)

gateway="default gw 192.168.2.1"

No, gateway does not have a ! before it.

It boots up fine, but when I log in I can't access/ping anything.
I get the unknown host error

When I type in route by itself it displays the default route, but it takes a while to display completely.   Finally, dhcpcd eth0 times out.  Honestly, I tried everything I know, anyone got any advice?

Re: eth0 oddity

I never heard about network devices showing up in /dev? Mine at least aren't showing there, and they're working fine.

Since you said you tried everything - did you check the output of ifconfig -a, maybe also dmesg?

And why are you trying to bring up a device you configure first with a static IP with DHCP after?µ

Can you ping IPs, or nothing alltogether? Did you check your DNS setup?

You are right, don't know where I got that /dev thing from, my bad.  I can't ping anything, and I've tried doing it after and before static IP.  My DNS setup works for everything else...  After I get the static IP, I still can't ping anything.

Re: eth0 oddity

Try adding nameservers to /etc/resolv.conf

nameserver 194.134.5.55

for instance

It should contain the ip-addresses of the nameservers (aka DNS-servers) of your provider
